Studies On Water Dispersible Products Based On Sulphitation Of Wool Wax By Trichlorosilyl Sulphite Reagent

Abstract

Wool wax is an industrial by-product which has been investigated for further use in the leather industry. It was treated with trichlorosilyl sulphite (TCSS) as a new reagent to obtain an oil having sulphite groups. Trichlorosilyl sulphite (TCSS) can be generated in situ by the interaction of tetrachlorosilane with sodium sulphite or sodium bisulphite. This forms a basic raw material stock for the development of a range of synthetic fatliquors which can be used in the leather industry equivalent to those based on sulphochlorinated oils.
