Abstract

In this study the new technology of an ultra-rapid sulpho-syntan tannage consisting of the successive action of a basic and then an acid liquor without pre-tanning, has been experimentally investigated. Results obtained on laboratory models have shown that this technology leads to a significant reduction in the total tanning time needed for properly tanned leathers having a satisfactory hydrothermal stability and a smooth grain. The tanning liquors (both basic and acid) are recycled after simple adjustment of parameters, this is taken as being necessary because of ecological pressures.
