Surface Impregnation of Leather Part I Variations in the Formulation of the Impregnant

Abstract

This study deals with the effect of different impregnating formulations on the properties of the finished upper leather. The variables investigated included the types of acrylic emulsion, the wetting agent concentration, the quantity applied and the concentration of solids. Both the acrylic emulsion and the wetting agent concentration were highly significant in determining leather break and other properties. On the other hand, plating and rebuffing operations had also affected the break and distension at grain crack of the impregnated leather.
