The Effect of Infection with Dermatophilus Congolensis on Lamb and Sheep Pelts
Abstract
This work has shown that infection of the live animal with the bacterium Dermatophilus congolensis causes the pelt defect known as whitespot which is relatively common in New Zealand pelts. While either drying or antibiotic treatment were effective in healing the clinical infections, the pelt defect persisted for at least six weeks after treatment in a number of cases.
