Abstract
The simple act of shaving the hair from cattle hide, prior to conventional hair burning unhairing, has the effect of halving both the chemical oxygen demand and the total suspended solids produced by this process step. This modification to hide processing also improves grain cleanliness and allows reductions in sulphide offer, especially if alkali stable enzyme is included in the bath.
