Abstract

A self-contained, no-effluent drum tannage is described which combines the advantages of the Liritan no-effluent pit tanning system with the speed of drum tanning, and produces leather of good yield and excellent colour. The tannage is extremely versatile, and by judicious choice of warm circulator pit barkometer strength and the quantity of tan extract powder offered in the drum, a wide range of vegetable tanned leathers can be produced.
