The Modification and Colouration of Leather by Graft Polymerisation
Abstract
The chemical fixation of acrylate and methacrylate monomers to wet-blue sheepskins and goatskins in the presence of redox, polymerisation initiators has been investigated. In the presence of such monomers, the concurrent application of an olefinically unsaturated dyestuff* and a colourless vinylic monomer gives coloured leathers having a partially fatliquored handle. The effect of several process variables on the fixation of the polymer by the leather are discussed.
