The Penetration Of Casein Into Chrome And Semi-Chrome Leather And The Influence Of Buffing And Fatliquor

Abstract

Casein has been dyed with Procion dyestuffs and its penetration into leather has been measured. The resin/casein ratio of the finishes has been varied and the effect of buffing, fatliquoring and intermediate plating on the penetration of the casein has been studied. The degree of buffing has been shown to exert the main effect and caused a deterioration in break, gloss and quality, but improved the fastness of the finish to wet and dry rubbing, and increased the resistance to acetone. The high resin content finish was affected to a smaller extent by buffing than the high casein finish.
