The Quality and Yield of Leather from Machine Fleshed Hides
Abstract
The main problems facing the tanner today are rising hide prices, establishing suitable sources of supply for hides of consistent quality both in terms of physical defects and standard of curing, and accurate costing to account for these factors. Therefore studies on the quality of hides cured by different methods, and the yield of leather obtained, are important for the industry. These factors have been studied in the present report for machine-fleshed and unfleshed hides cured by agitated brining in a raceway system and conventional stack salting.
