The Relationship Between Bovine Ectoparasite Treatments and Grain Leather Quality
Abstract
Cattle regularly treated during their 18 month life with four proprietary ectoparasiticides were found to carry a lice burden which, although reduced by treatment was never eradicated. Hides from both untreated and treated cattle were found to have noteable levels of grain damage. Only one of four ectoparasiticides had any significant effect on the degree of grain damage visible on the wet blue leathers.
