Abstract
The study concerns testing of selected properties of leather produced in Poland particularly properties which are important for comfort. Shoe leathers were tested mainly for water vapour permeability and softness. Water vapour permeability tests were performed according to the new method which uses equipment made by the Radwag company (the idea was invented by the University of Technology and Humanities (UTH) in Radom, Poland), and which enables fast measurement in conditions similar to those under which the leather is used. In total, a range made by 8 Polish tanneries were tested. The results of the study showed that the majority of selections of leather produced in Poland is of very good quality. The water vapour permeability of the leathers ranged from 380mg/10cm2/24h to 4930mg/10cm2/24h ((according to the method of UTH Radom). The relationship between softness and water vapour permeability was investigated.
