The Swelling of Hide-Powder in Hydrochloric Acid

Abstract

In this paper experimental data for the pH swelling together with the titartion curve of collagen with hydrochloric acid is presented and used to verify the Donnan-Proctor-Wilson theory of swelling. The work described largely parallels that of Peters and Speakman on the swelling and titration of wool. The applicability of the Gilbert-Rideal theory is also examined, but is found to be less satisfactory.
