Abstract
If required, gloving leathers of the type used for motor cyclists’ gloves could be made more waterproof by treating them with special waterproofing agents. Experiments show that, with such leathers, silicones are relatively ineffective, and much the best results were obtained by treating them with an agent of the alkyl succinic acid type. This was effective in increasing substantially the penetration time of all the leathers tried (except for two which had probably been waterproofed commercially before receipt), and there is no apparent reason why leathers should not reach greatly improved standards if the extra processing costs warrant this.
