Theoretical Aspects Of The Retannage Of Chrome Leather With Vegetable Tannins
Abstract
Observations are made about the displacement of sulphate and chromium when chrome tanned leather is retanned with vegetable tanning extracts. The influence of masking agents and the degree of retannage are discussed. Evidence from studying changes during retannage and ageing, both in laboratory and commercially prepared leathers, is used to suggest possible reaction mechanisms.
